Every season there’s a look I love and this season it’s French Vogue’s Editor-in-Chief Emmanuelle Alt’s personal style. The cropped pants, the heels, the rock chick-meets-a simple laid back and very french look. Perfect.
Get the look:
Stretch faux leather pants from Michael Kors ($100)
Black wool blazer from Zara (79.90)
Chambray shirt, J.Crew ($72)
Christian Louboutin pumps ($625)
Happy Labor Day weekend! It’s so nice to have three days and nothing planned. Well, we’re doing things locally like swimming and bbq-ing but it’s nice to not be stuck in a hot car in traffic. What are you doing? I’m in the middle of “The Silent Wife” by A.S.A. Harrison and can’t put it down. How is it fall already? P and I are already talking about what he wants to be for Halloween (how on earth I’m going to come up with a green mamba costume, I don’t know.) This is also a time of year that I like to do a lot of cleaning (pulling out old clothes, toys, junk!) and putting donation piles together. I also can’t wait to throw on a chunky sweater and jeans. It’s time!
Enjoy your weekend!
Digging the beautiful patio dinner party House of Harlow designer Nicole Richie recently threw for friends and Domainehome.com. The Moroccan theme served as the perfect backdrop to a family style dinner created by chef Jeffrey Nimer. I love patios drenched in candlelight for evening dinners and the beautiful hues of Mediterranean blues and golds of her linens and flatware were perfect.

Hard to believe Marilyn Monroe died 51 years ago this month.
I love the old photos of Norma Jean. Stunning. I wonder what she would’ve looked like as she got older? The last photo I posted made me do a double take as she looked a bit like my mother. Same nose. Eyes. So strange how people can resemble each other.
Have to run. More later. C
You probably thought I fell into a hole and couldn’t get out. No. Just back into the swing of school open house and trying to clear my way out of the mounds of laundry and crap that were crowding my entry way after coming back from vacation. Coming home is sometimes worse than being away but we had a terrific time with our friends. Highlights included long hikes, cooking dinners, hitting the beach, and blowing out birthday candles with my family and close friends.
Now I’m trying to figure out a few more activities before P man goes back to school. Where did summer go? A couple of days ago I was over at a friend’s house and she had a “summer bucket list” on her kitchen chalk board for her daughter. So creative and loved it. I would love to do one for fall/winter time. Like, make Halloween cookies, visit the pumpkin patch. It’s a great way to come up with things to do together.
Here are some fun things for you:
Celebrities do the walk of shame too (like January Jones)
For some reason, this image is stirring up controversy
Who knew Jones New York had such stylish outwear? Love this coat with the fur collar ($249)
I can never get enough of cap toe ballet flats and these are pretty without breaking the bank (Stuart Weitzman, $285)
Pretty tassel necklace from Etsy (24.50)
Ciela monogram bracelets from Mark + Graham (from $119)
Love Tory Burch’s Manhattan apartment. What a beautifully designed space (I’m a fan of stacked coffee table books). The orange walls, the all green room. Designed by the talented Daniel Romualdez (he did Aerin Lauder’s Aspen home), Tory’s place is a perfect balance of classic East Coast prep and reflects Tory’s style to a T. Pun intended.
It’s been kind of a ho hum summer, movie wise which is why I’m looking forward to seeing this.
“Lovelace,” starring Amanda Seyfried and Peter Sarsgaard (love him!), follows the rocky life of porn star Linda Lovelace, who is used and abused by the porn industry as well as her husband. James Franco, Sharon Stone, Chris Noth, Adam Brody, and Chloe Sevigny round out the stellar cast.
And now that “The Killing” is over, I’ve heard this is great. And love that the episodes are available on Netflix on Demand
“Orange is the New Black”
From the creators of “Weeds,” “Orange is the New Black” follows Piper Chapman, a thirty something woman serving 15 months in prison for a decade old crime of moving money for her drug dealing girlfriend.
Are you watching anything great? The press is already humming about Season 4 of “Downton Abbey” which will premiere January 2014, but that’s too far out for me right now. Why they don’t bump up the date here in the states (sigh) and how will we watch it without Matthew?
Last night our carbon monoxide alarm beeped once (my guess was low battery) but one of my first thoughts was, “can I really call the fire department at 11pm looking as terrible as I do?” This is coming from being brought up by a woman who said “never run to Walgreen’s late at night for milk without makeup on. You never know who you’ll run into.” I looked like hell. Frizzy, chlorine dried hair in a knot. Bad roots. No makeup. A few zits. Fat sweats. Not that you should greet firemen at the door with a perfect blowout and lip gloss on but c’mon. I looked worse than bad. The last time they were here, it looked like the cast of “Magic Mike” walked through the door. And I was makeup free then too. No bueno. I’m happy to note that I didn’t call them and we luckily made it.
The wild man gets home today from being in the wilds Africa. He’s already caught me up on being charged by a buffalo. Awesome. He shot a buffalo the last day he was there. I told him it’s not ending up in my living room.
Enjoy your Wednesday! C
“The body.” The healthy bouncy hair. The tan skin. The effortless style. I’ve always been a fan of Elle Macpherson and love how she rocks the oversized sunglasses, boyfriend jeans, and flats. So chic.
