Terry Richardson’s Diary

Recently got sucked into shock photographer “Terry Richardson’s Diary” on Tumblr.  I love portraits, and I love portraits of famous people doing silly things.  I wonder if Miley Cyrus’ mom was in the room when she was shooting in Terry’s studio.  Probably not.   New York Magazine did an interesting piece on Terry and Jezebel.com did a not so flattering one.  Whatever you think, it’s his simplicity of the shot that makes the image appealing.

Pass the Margaritas

Cindy Crawford, her husband Rande Gerber and George Clooney have built side-by-side villas in Los Cabos, Mexico where they’ve created stunning retreats from the hustle and bustle of Hollywood.   I love the design, can’t get over that Cindy Crawford hasn’t aged, and I pretty much would live anywhere next to Clooney.

This & That

Because I love “H.O.V.A.” (a.k.a. Jay-Z),  “Made in America” is a must see.  It didn’t disappoint.

I love NY socialite Olivia Palermo’s street style

Man, I’ve been in a hole.  Having to take care of a soon-to-be 4 year old with a husband out of town and a knock you down flu almost had me in tears.  I almost threw up in Safeway (which would’ve been kind of funny and ironic since I hate Safeway) and I had sinus headaches all week.  I couldn’t even sit upright.  Sleep. Sleep. Sleep.  And it’s hard when you can’t bribe a 4 year old to sleep when you want to.   I still feel crappy, but not close to what I was feeling last Monday.  And why is October so crazy busy? Birthdays, photo shoots, engagement parties, black tie events, and there is no end in sight.

Enjoy your day…..

Monday, Monday

How are you? How was the weekend? Ours was good.  P and I went to the gym, to a birthday party and then we hung around and relaxed all day yesterday and I did a Target run (exciting, I know! But Target is Mecca and I almost do a happy dance in the parking lot).  I’m in the planning stages of P’s 4th birthday and last night he asked Straw for a pet cobra for his gift.  Straw said, “but it can kill you” and P said, “no, it would be behind glass in my room.”  I think he thinks we can have a collection of animals over here like at the aquarium.  It’s going to start looking like Noah’s Ark if we have a dog, a rabbit, and now a snake.  Well….we’d have to have two of everything (no thanks! I’m not cleaning any more animal crap out of cages. I’m a mom, not a zoo keeper).   I’m also starting lots of fun photo shoots, trying to lose 15 pounds and convinced I’m going through menopause (hello? Night sweats anyone? Probably doesn’t help that I’m under a down comforter when it’s been 75+ degrees out).

A few things for your Monday:

Anyone see Ray Donovan last night? Holy smokes! I could barely watch it it was so disturbing but the show is soo good!

Putting “The Writers Room” on my list of must watch TV.  They do a round table discussion of how the writers behind our favorite shows (“Breaking Bad,” “Dexter”) come up with ideas and character plots.

Remembering 9/11 Through Moving Photographs

Screen Shot 2013-09-11 at 10.36.46 AM

I was in New York a month after the September 11th attack on the World Trade Center. The city seemed more quiet than I remember. Somber.

As I walked around SoHo, I came to a storefront that was serving as a temporary gallery. There were unframed photographs hanging throughout the space, all taken on that tragic day.  The photos had been submitted by amateur and professional photographers and those images, taken from every point of view, became a powerful collective known as “Here is New York” exhibit.   September 11th was one of the most photographed events in our country’s history and these images convey such a sense of destruction, loss, confusion, emotion and fear.

I always come back to the quote from George W. Bush’s speech he gave on September 20th:

“Our nation, this generation, will lift the dark threat of violence from our people and our future.  We will rally the world to this cause by our efforts, by our courage.  We will not tire, we will not falter, and we will not fail.”

Thinking of those today who lost their lives in that tragic event.  And for the families and friends  who were left to grieve a tremendous loss.  May their peace and faith continue to get them through dark times.

We will never forget.
