Happy Friday

I am sitting here eating a mini frozen Twix. I need to get this Halloween candy out of the house. We asked P if he wanted “The candy witch” to visit (he puts all of his Halloween candy under his bed and the “witch” takes the candy and leaves him a present) and he thought about it for a long time, and then said no. This morning he asked where his candy was and said, “I just want to play with it” when I told him he needed to eat breakfast first. It was great seeing him super excited last night. He couldn’t get enough and it was fun to see it finally click with him. My favorite was he told our 5 year old neighbor Ella, who was dressed as a witch, that “her face looked beautiful.” I melted.

So Straw and I want to plan a little trip somewhere together but not sure where to go #WhitePeopleProblems.  I really want to go to South Carolina, but as we head into winter, I’m not sure I’m down with freezing cold.  I’m always up for NYC, but he doesn’t like it there.  He suggested Hawaii which would be lovely, but I kind of want to go somewhere I’ve never been.  The Caribbean is too far.   I don’t like Mexico.   I would love to do an East Coast trip and do Maine or road trip it and do a bunch of little East Coast towns.  Ideas?

This is my new favorite purchase and it’s nice and cozy (and I need to move away from stripes)

This Halloween costume was pretty incredible.  Hard to believe it’s Heidi Klum!

Saturday Night Live’s take on a Wes Anderson horror movie is pretty genius.

Tonight I’m going to a wine and cheese party and then have photo shoots all weekend which I’m looking forward to.  Christmas card photos are in full swing!  P and Straw are going on an “adventure” to go camping and duck hunting.  Hope you have a great weekend!

I think the Teavaro bib from Bauble Bar ($36) is so pretty.
Any plans for the weekend? Saturday is usually P’s “adventure” day, where we take him somewhere top secret.  When I was growing up, my dad would take me and my brother out for “adventures” and we’d wind up at a park, at the beach, out for club sandwiches and ice cream.  The anticipation of not knowing where we were going always made it fun and we went all over the Bay Area.   Tonight we’re making Halloween cookies and watching Charlie Brown.   Hope you have a great weekend and enjoy this beautiful fall weather!C

I love NY socialite Olivia Palermo’s street style

Man, I’ve been in a hole.  Having to take care of a soon-to-be 4 year old with a husband out of town and a knock you down flu almost had me in tears.  I almost threw up in Safeway (which would’ve been kind of funny and ironic since I hate Safeway) and I had sinus headaches all week.  I couldn’t even sit upright.  Sleep. Sleep. Sleep.  And it’s hard when you can’t bribe a 4 year old to sleep when you want to.   I still feel crappy, but not close to what I was feeling last Monday.  And why is October so crazy busy? Birthdays, photo shoots, engagement parties, black tie events, and there is no end in sight.

Enjoy your day…..

What Time is It?

Just got back from vacation where I ate a lot of wonderful food, had many delicious cocktails and indulged in too many desserts.  I got a lot of sleep, flipped through magazines at the pool with my best friend, had lots of laughs, shopped, laughed, drank, sat in the sun, slept, ate popcorn in bed and watched “Some Kind of Wonderful” for the 100th time, slept, hit the spa, enjoyed  iced coffees and today I’m hung over from my vacation.  I came home, stayed up late catching up on shows and was slammed back into reality at 5:45 am this morning when the three year old came in to tell me he was hungry.  I had a great time and was very excited to get home and see him but sometimes you wish you could wade back into your life versus feeling like you were thrown into the deep end in freezing cold water.  But that doesn’t happen with a three year old.  I know this sounds like I’m complaining but I’m not.  I know this sounds spoiled, but I think the lesson learned was I was still pretending like I had no where to be last night when I was surfing the web, watching TV and didn’t lay down until 1am.  In other words, still acting like I was on vacation.  You can’t do this when you’re a mother.  When you’re back, you really have to be back.  There’s no “taxiing on the runway before takeoff” any more.  When my girlfriend got home, she sent me a snapshot of the laundry that had piled up from being away from her husband and kids for 4 days.  The trip was wonderful but the carriage definitely turned back into a pumpkin when we walked through our front doors.

Oh, and the sugar/bread/drink detox starts today.

I’m looking forward to “Vintage Bowles” where Hamish goes all over the world in search for pieces for his couture collection.

This & That

I could not get out of bed today.  Could.not. Maybe because I’ve been staying up too late watching TV and reading.  Maybe I’m getting old.  Maybe it’s both.  I’m a night owl so when morning rolls around, I’m dead to the world.  Straw says to me, “I’m surprised anything gets done around here with the way you are in the morning.”  My mom was the same way.  I used to say she was PC “pre cigarette” and PC “post cigarette.”  It’s like her “on” button was flicked once she had a coffee and a cigarette.  Me? I don’t start feeling normal until around 10 am, and that’s without coffee or a cigarette.   I like to enjoy coffee when I hit the daily wall around 2:30 PM.  The comedian Jim Gaffigan talks about staying up late: “It is amazing how much more amazing sleep is in the morning. You wake up and you’re like…
“I stayed up to do what?! Watch Growing Pains? What was I thinking!?”
But at night you’re like…
“La La La La La, Hey! Growing Pains, awesome! And I’ve seen this episode, that Kirk Cameron always in trouble.”

My problem is I have a “Growing Pains” moment every night around 10:45pm.

Here are my picks for this week (or what I think is cool):

If you’re a Nikon DSLR nerd like me, well they just came out with the new D4 (Why Nikon? Why? Now I have something new to obsess about). 16.2 MP FX-format CMOS sensor, 10 fps continuous shooting, a 91,000-Pixel RGB sensor and Advanced SRS, improved 51 point AF System, ISO expanded to 204,800 and 1080p video at 30p with stereo sound. From $5,999.95

And I forgot (how could I forget?) to add BBC’s “The Fall” with Gillian Anderson to my lineup of new favorite dramas. Only 5 episodes that are available on Netflix on demand.  Anderson is a investigator chasing a serial killer in Belfast, Ireland. I’m in the middle of episode 3 and the show is great.  And where has Gillian Anderson been hiding since X Files?

This & That

Another hot day, another afternoon of dealing with boob sweat.  Not fun! We have a crazy weekend ahead and just trying to relax and stay cool.  We’re thinking of going to the movies tonight, either “Monster’s U” or “Despicable Me 2.”

Everyone is already lining up their chairs for the parade tomorrow. We ventured downtown and it’s already crazy.  People are taping off the sidewalk and I saw a woman with a golf cart carrying chairs.  I think 15 to 20,000 people go to this thing.  This year we’re skipping it.  Not in the mood to melt for 4 hours.  Just bring on the BBQ!

Here are some of my faves this week:

Image

Excited for this chippendale planter from Home Depot ($56.97 each).  I am going to add boxwoods to these around our doors out to the patio.  Can’t beat the price.  I couldn’t find these anywhere for less than $300 when we were remodeling our back yard last fall.

Screen Shot 2013-07-02 at 5.22.18 PM

One of these years I’m going to host a Fourth of July BBQ blow out.  Would love to serve these flag cookies from Etsy ($33/dozen)

If there’s one thing I’m a sucker for, it’s a statement necklace.  Dig this Koi one from Marlyn Schiff ($84)

Adore the design of this plate by Copenhagen ($130).  So beautiful and  I would use this for every day.

Screen Shot 2013-07-02 at 5.33.56 PM

I’m a fan of green and white linens.  This set ($110) from Land’s End is on sale right now.  Perfect for summer!

Putting “Ain’t Them Bodies Saints” with Casey Affleck and Rooney Mara on my summer movie list.  This looks like Oscar material for another Affleck.

Screen Shot 2013-07-02 at 5.45.33 PM

Putting the Lake Placid Lodge in the Adirondacks on my wanderlust list.

Screen Shot 2013-07-02 at 5.50.18 PM

Hoping J.Crew gets these awesome Adidas back in stock.  They’d be so cute on P!

French Vogue correspondent (now living in New York) Carole Sabas would give friends advice on where to stay/eat when they were en route to the Paris Fashion Week shows (hence her first guide, “Fashion Insiders Guide: Paris”). Makes sense that she also put one together for New York ($24.95) Wish I had this shopping guide when I was there in December!.

Saw a woman with this Lululemon tank ($42) on at the gym today. Very sleek looking and perfect for summer.

Hope you have a great 4th and I’ll be back soon.  Stay safe! C
